How our process came to be

All these are trials and errors which sucks but whatever... it leads us to what we need to accomplish. so there are really good things that we did. alot of experimentation.

the one here... we did some exture but you cant real/ly see it from this picture with gesso... cause we wanted to see if there were ways that we ca create with texture.

i thougtt of maybe... having the pipes textured like a log then paint it brown so that it could be like... plant inside a plant... DOUBLE GREEN attack.
the one here... we spray painted different colors to try. and the colors that we have were paprika, azzurro and giallo. i personally didnt like the colors together that much... individual... lovedd ittt
then we went onto brown paint and it was next to the blue. and i love itttttttt.
here we have some wood stain. and elise decided to stain the pipes with it... ummm... not so well turned out
these were our tubes that we cut. the first round and it just didnt work out that much because the tabs and slots were tooo thin. it didnt fit right and it was just wobbly. so just didnt like it as much.
here were some more cut tubes and the fractured one. at the bottom of this picture... we cut some that were half circles but we had a problem using the tabs and slots with these. soo they were a no-no.

Modern Junkyard

How we got these pipes... its pretty awesome.

i called this place and it's the closes to Towson and it's called Modern Junkyard. And we called them first and asked if there are pipes and they said yes. so we drove all the way to Baltimore. and we were in the middle of the hood.

We didnt take a lot of pictures. Because we were in the middle of the hood ane Megan wanted to take some pics and I was scared man... me and elise said hell no. so megan pretended to be checking her message. we paid 40 dollars for all the pvc pipes. it was great!!!!!

Chair-A-Rium

We started brainstorming of what we want to do and there we so many things that we thought of.

we started to talk about what we actually want to make.

and we agree that we want a furniture. and we also agree that we wanted something that was changeable.

and we kept looking at things.

but that kinda changed our idea.

what happened was i just said..... "i know it's impossible but what if we have a change and have plants grow inside it?" and elise said... ohhh like a terrarium. it's like an aquarium but with plants.

so that's how our idea came by. and we thought of what we wanted. and i believe sustainability is taking trash and turning it into something that is new and worth something. because if we were to tak. a pure material then there is no point because i think that it's kinda stupid and that is not being aware of nature and that's a waste of the natural materials.

for some reason, we looked up and we saw the pipes and i said... lets have PVC pipes that they throw away. and we want to make chairs.

while i was trying to say terrarium... i cant really say that word and messed up. and elise said... ohhhhh CHAIR-A-RIUM!!!

Sustainability

When talking about Sustainability... the world originally comes from Latin "sustinere" and in modern day of Italian "sostenere" meaning to support or sustain, has been change in the past twenty years.

It divided into three systems. One is the eco part, which is retaining the natural resources. The second is the chemical cycle and how there are constant changing of the matters. And third... the economy.

All of these tie into each other and how we are using up the natural resources to make things for the people and with that we need energy to keep going with all of these process. Not only that we turn the natural resources into things that are not recyclable like plastic. We can renew it. But most of the time, we dont throw it in the recycling bin and those plastics get toss into a landfill where they basically will remain there for the rest of time.

The Definition of Sustainable from dictionary.com:

sustainable |səˈstānəbəl|adjectiveable to be maintained at a certain rate or level : sustainable fusion reactions.
-ecology (esp. of development, exploitation, or agriculture) conservingan ecological balance by avoiding depletion of natural resources.
able to be upheld or defended : sustainable definitions of good educationalpractice.
The intention of sustainable design is to eliminate the negative impact and future negativity with the usage of design skills.
There are many definitions of sustainable design, such as production without non-renewable materials or none-biodegradable with the least minimal impact to Mother Nature or enlightens the people to the issue of sustainability and how we can make it better.
There are different beliefs when it comes to this issue. Many believe that we can use materials that can be biodegradable or using cottons that dont use chemicals or use leathers that use natural dye. But with that, the issues comes up with things like... during that process, are you sure that it really is sustainable? Because though we are using natural leather, the process that the manufacturing company is using could be bad.
DID YOU KNOW THAT THE LEATHER INDUSTRY IS ONE OF THE TOP INDUSTRY THAT CREATES POLLUTION WHICH IS DESTROYING OUR OZONE LAYER & OUR PLANET?

There are so many things when it comes to the principle of sustainable design:
1. Using materials that will affect the nature the least. In the natural ways, the one's waste is the other's food. So we need to keep that cycle. If we create things that cannot be recycle then we will keep making it and all it will do is go deep into the underground of our planet.2. Using less energy, because if factories are using more energy, where is that energy coming from??? Natural Resources, of course.3. Design for reuse and recycling. Reason being is number 14. Design for carbon footprint.5. Design for needed
Sustainable Materials are materials that fulfills the Green requirements such as organic cotton that doesnt use any pesticides and knowing where these materials come from. Bamboo is a great way to use make actually structural objects and also, it can be use to make fabrics which are actually quite soft.
Others like myself, when thinking of sustainability, I think of not using pure materials. I would not want to make a Green object with pure cotton or using bamboo. But I would like to use materials that can be find at junkyard or landfills.

2nd Model and Marguette for my Hype Helmet

This was my final design for it.

My concept is about how our skin... our exterior is what protects us but it gives us our weakness.

I was inspired by this show that was on E Online!! There was a girl who had dwarfism and people with tumors and the tree man.

It makes me think of how people sees us. So I want a helmet that covers most of our face, a feature that people focus on. But... I made it where you can see part of a face because... I want people to think... I see their face... but is the rest of them going to look like that or is there something else that is underneath that surface?

It's about seeing things that are more than skin deep.

With the pattern and texture, I went back to the skin part of our body. And I wanted the patterns to be inspired from the cells of the skin. Cells are structured but it also is organic and is moves freely just like roots of the tree. So I didnt want the helmet to be completely solid but has some spaces to show that it is branching out like cell structures.
